As the number and success of innovative Lithuanian startups grows rapidly, companies such as Vinted, Trafi, Deeper, Bored Panda, and others are appearing more and more often in the media. Vinted alone has been mentioned nearly 500 times in recent years in Lithuanian media (in print, online portals, news agency reports, and radio and TV broadcasts), according to data collected by the media monitoring and analysis company Mediaskopas. However, small or newly established Lithuanian family businesses still remain invisible amid this abundance and tend to focus on social media.
The generational differences that exist in family businesses, already reported back in 2015, are also becoming more apparent - Generation Y is focused on modernization and innovation, which leads to business models based on new technologies and social responsibility. One example is the Lithuanian family business Atvirukas.com, which allows you to send a postcard from anywhere in the world using only a phone or computer. You send a postcard while hiking up a mountain in Switzerland, and the creators of Atvirukas.com promise to plant a tree or contribute to planting one every time 10 postcards are sold. Other family businesses are also focused on sustainability - Supkis, which creates toys for children from eco-friendly materials, or Skaidri etiketė, which presents health, ecology, and conscious choice as its core values.
